Master’s Comprehensive Examination (Portfolio) Guidelines

Guidelines for students entering prior to Fall 2005

Guidelines for students entering in/after Fall 2005

Visit the Master's Portfolio Forum in IS Community site to learn more details about the portfolio process and ask questions in an open forum about the portfolio.

In order to graduate from the Instructional Systems Masters program, all students must take the masters comprehensive examination in the form of a portfolio that demonstrates the competencies students have acquired during their time in the program. The same portfolio requirement applies to both Instructional Systems and Open and Distance Learning Majors. Starting from Fall 2005, there is a new process for helping students prepare their portfolios and new requirements for the format and contents of the portfolio. The new procedures will apply to all students who entered the program starting from Fall 2005.

For those students who entered the IS Masters program prior to Fall 2005, the old procedures still apply. However, you have a choice of being the first to follow the new procedure and be part of the formative evaluation process that would help the program make the portfolio even better! There is greater emphasis in the new portfolio on writing a personal goal statement regarding future career goals and preparing a portfolio that can be used as a job interview tool. Being at the end of your program, you will not have experienced the ongoing portfolio preparation process intended for new students. However, you may still be able to put together a portfolio that meets the new requirements at this stage of your tenure in the program.
